This information is provided by the State of Vermont, Department of Public Service, 120 State Street, Montpelier, Vt. 05602 and is presented to you by the Swanton Village Electric Department, of Swanton, Vt.

The following is a list of capacity in kilowatts (kw), time per day in use, and the kilowatt hour (kwh) consumption per month of typical household appliances.* The kw capacity is an average value and the actual amount can be taken from the appliance nameplate. The use per day is also an average value and will vary by household. The kwh ** per month is based on the kw capacity. Since some appliances, such as ranges, are not always used at full capacity, the kwh may be less.

A kilowatt hour (kwh) is the term that describes the power consumption of 1 kilowatt (kw) for a period of one hour. I.E. If a 1 kw device is used for 2 hours then the power consumed was 2 kilowatt hours or 2 kwh.
